WHO ARE WE?

Stu Davidson & Sons (Pty) Ltd is a Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) based Plant Hire and Demolition Company, that was established by Mr Stuart Davidson in 1983. Operating one of the largest fleets of late-model earthmoving machinery in the Eastern Cape, the Plant Hire Fleet includes water, dumper and tipper trucks, front-end loaders, graders, rollers, excavators, bulldozers, hydraulic hammers and low-beds.

Manned by a team of highly experienced operators and drivers, all our operators have undergone training and have been issued with certificates of competency as well as medical certificates. To ensure top quality professional service, the fleet is backed up by a dedicated workshop team who ensure the continued smooth running of the fleet. The 24-hour service ensures customers always have help on hand and we are prepared to tackle any challenge head on.

Stu Davidson boasts a over 100 personnel from the Eastern Cape and 85% of the team are from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. Most employees have been with the company for more than 20 years.

Stewart Davidson

Founder
Stu Davidson, founder of Stu Davidson & Sons, epitomises resilience and entrepreneurship. Born in Cardiff, Wales, on 26 December 1947, Stu's journey began with humble roots and a strong work ethic.From delivering milk in freezing Scottish winters to venturing into the coal mines of Yorkshire, Stu learned the value of hard work early on. Transitioning to mechanics, he spotted an opportunity in renting out vehicles and earth-moving equipment, founding Stu Davidson Plant Hire.Relocating to South Africa in 1984, Stu established Stu Davidson & Sons in Port Elizabeth. From a home-based operation, the business grew, reflecting Stu's dedication and entrepreneurial spirit. Today, it stands as a prominent presence in Port Elizabeth's Cotswold Quarry, a testament to Stu's enduring legacy

Nicholas Davidson

Director
Born in South Yorkshire, England, Nick moved to Port Elizabeth, South Africa with his family in 1984. From the age of 8 Nick was involved in the family business, Nick would grease, load, manoeuvre the machinery around the yard. By the age of 13 Nick was fully converse in operating all the machinery in the fleet. At 16 years old he was in the workshop tending to all day-to-day maintenance was required. Call outs for mechanical assistance or where a machine needed moving/operating were commonplace between his hours in the workshop. Nick’s dedicated commitment to the Family business as a youngster, now sees him as a director in the family business. Nick’s unfounded knowledge of machinery both operationally and mechanically and his 40 years experience within the Plant Hire/Construction sector secures his business acumen to continue with the success of the business.

Patrick Davidson

Director
Having grown up with a father and older brother in the construction industry, Patrick has always been involved with our company and officially joined Stu Davidson & Sons in 2000. He started out working as an assistant mechanic in our workshop before becoming an operational trainee, learning and gaining the necessary knowledge and skills of the day-to day operations which would see him become an operations manager in 2014. As an operations manager, Patrick managed sites and clients to ensure the effective and efficient completion of projects, while ensuring that health and safety regulations are followed and complied with. In the beginning of 2020, he was appointed as a director of Stu Davidson & Sons. Patrick now monitors and ensures our strategic objectives and goals are being achieved, and makes calculated adjustments to these objectives and goals where necessary.

Ashley Bezuidenhout

Site Administrator
Ashley started with the company in 2019, working as a mechanic’s assistant before moving into the procurement/stores department. Once he understood the procurement process and assisted with the store development, he moved over to the operations team with Patrick & Grant midway through 2020. As a site administrator he assists with the management of sites and clients and ensures all SHE regulations are being adhered to, while also ensuring the effective & efficient completion of projects. He is also involved with the debtors department, making sure all the timesheets are captured correctly and invoiced accordingly.

Grant Van Der Merwe

Site Manager
Grant joined Stu Davidson and Sons in 2014. He began working in the stores and workshop where he furthered his mechanical knowledge of the earthmoving machinery. In 2016 he started working under Patrick Davidson where he was groomed on the operations side of the business. In 2017 he was promoted to operations manager. As the Operations Manager, he manages the sites and clients, and oversees the operators and machinery, as well as the running of the day-to-day operations. He always pushes to go the extra mile to ensure that our customers’ expectations are exceeded by delivering a service which is second to none! Grant holds a bachelor's degree in Human Movement Science as well as a NEBOSH IGC health and safety qualification which plays an integral part in the company’s health and safety on the various sites, as well as the demolitions which we specialise in.
